Overview

QueerSpace respects your right to control your personal data. You can delete your account and request removal of your personal data at any time, directly from the app. No emails, no support tickets, no waiting.

How to Delete Your Account

You can delete your account entirely from within the QueerSpace app:

  • Open the QueerSpace app
  • Go to the Profile tab
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account
  • You will be offered the option to download your data before deletion
  • Type "DELETE" to confirm
  • Your account will be permanently deleted

What Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed:

  • Your account and profile: Email address, display name, profile details, pride flag selection, pronouns, and all other profile information
  • Your privacy settings: All visibility preferences and privacy tier selections
  • Your demographics: Any optional demographic information you provided (gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age range)
  • Your bookmarks and reports: Any businesses you bookmarked or content you reported
  • Your reputation score: All reputation points and history
  • Your comfort level data: Any comfort level assessments you submitted

What Is Anonymised

To preserve the integrity of community safety information, reviews you have submitted are anonymised rather than deleted. This means:

  • Your reviews remain visible but are attributed to "Deleted User"
  • No connection between the reviews and your identity is retained
  • The ratings and review text continue to contribute to business safety scores, protecting other community members

This approach balances your right to deletion with the community's need for accurate safety information. If someone relied on a safety rating to choose a GP or a cafe, removing the underlying reviews could put them at risk.

Download Your Data First

Before deleting your account, QueerSpace offers you the ability to download all of your personal data in a machine-readable format. The download includes:

  • Your profile information
  • All reviews you have submitted
  • Your bookmarks and reports
  • Your privacy and demographic settings

The download link is available for 7 days. We recommend downloading your data before confirming deletion, as the process cannot be reversed.

Deletion Timeline

  • Immediate: Your account is deactivated and you are signed out
  • Within 24 hours: Your personal data is removed from our active database
  • Within 30 days: Your data is removed from any backups

Alternative: Request Deletion by Email

If you are unable to access the app, you can request account deletion by emailing us at privacy@queerspace.nz. Please include the email address associated with your account. We will process your request within 20 working days as required by the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
